This article was last updated 1 year ago.

Advantech, a leading global provider of intelligent systems and industrial edge computers, is excited to announce that its MIC-770 V2 modular fanless edge IPC is certified on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. MIC-770-V2 is powered by a 10th generation Intel® Xeon®/Core™ i socket-type (LGA1200) processor with Intel® W480E chipset, offering excellent computing performance and flexible expandability using MIC i-Modules and Advantech iDoor modules, which are the best choice for machine automation and AIoT applications in diversified scenarios. With the Certification of Ubuntu 20.04, Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, guarantees both 5-years of maintenance updates and extended security maintenance (ESM). This delivers a stable and secure IoT platform for AI applications and edge computing to enterprises.

MIC-770 V2 – Secure Intelligent Systems for AIoT Applications with Ubuntu 20.04

Canonical and Advantech have collaborated to help enterprises accelerate Edge AIoT applications with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS certified on MIC-770 V2. Ubuntu, an open-source software platform that runs from the cloud to IoT devices, is considered among the world’s best Linux operating systems for development and production. Ubuntu is increasingly tasked with running robotics, autonomous vehicles  or drones. The Ubuntu certification is a long-term commitment to ensure that the latest security updates are continuously tested on the MIC-770 V2 in Canonical’s labs. The certified MIC-770 thus benefits from Ubuntu 20.04 enhanced security and stability throughout the 10-year lifecycle of the Ubuntu release, including constant security patching process and features like kernel self protection, stack-clash protection, control flow integrity, and more.  Consequently  MIC-770 V2 is an ideal platform with excellent security and stability for customers in various AIoT and machine control alongside other diverse applications in industrial manufacturers.

Industrial-grade and Compact Fanless Design with Remote Management Support

MIC-770 V2 is a fanless and compact design modular IPC system that supports a wide range of power inputs (9 ~ 36 VDC), and operating temperatures of -10~60°C. MIC-770 V2 resists the problem of dust accumulation, greatly increasing product reliability and reducing equipment maintenance costs. The fanless design with a passive thermal solution also brings the advantage of silent operation. The ruggedized chassis design and cast aluminum heatsink offer vibration and shock protection, which means MIC-770 V2 can be used in various environments, whether noise-sensitive indoor environments or remote hazardous locations. MIC-770 V2 supports Advantech’s SUSI API and WISE-DeviceOn remote management software also within Ubuntu deployment-ready snaps and over the air upgrade for convenient management and system protection, facilitating industry leading remote operations and management for developers.

High Performance-to-Cost Solution with Strong I/O Flexibility

MIC-770 V2 supports 2 x GigaLAN, 2 x USB 3.2, 6 x USB 3.2, and dual displays located in the front panel for convenient cabling, which were all tested by Canonical to confirm that each I/O works properly on the MIC-770 V2 with Ubuntu to meet industrial grade standards. Moreover, MIC-770 V2 is equipped with various expansion modules via the inclusion of a mini PCIe I/F onboard, including Advantech’s iDoor industrial fieldbus, MIC i-Modules, smart I/O, and communication modules can be integrated for enhanced functionality and Flexibility. In addition, the pre-installed Ubuntu and shortened lead times of Advantech’s configure-to-order service (CTOS) help customers reduce their system deployment and time-to-market, yet with a cost-effective and easy-deployed solution.

Advantech’s MIC-770 V2 is available for order. For more information on Ubuntu certified hardware, check out the Ubuntu website.
